BURRIDGE Myrtle Elsie Maud

Myrtle was born on 9 May 1886 in Erskine South Australia, Myrtle's sister was Olive nee Parnell who married. H.G.Burridge. Myrtle arrived by ship to Albany in 1896, with her parents, the late Mr. & Mrs. E. V. Parnell, of Yongler. S.A. Who after arriving in the port of Albany walked to the Gnowangerup district with their possessions in the early 1900's, taking up land at Toolbrunup.
As a child Myrtle got lost one late afternoon. She noticed a "seeder" in a paddock where she took shelter, sleeping the night in the seed box.

It was at Toolbrunup that she met her future husband, Richard Burridge who was the son of the pioneer Richard " Old Dick" Robert Burridge and Mary May nee Searle, who during his lifetime farmed such well known properties as Glengarry, Beeginup and Cranes Soak.
On 6th January 1908 they were married in the Katanning Registration District and immediately afterwards settled at Gnowangerup on 'Oak Farm'. Oak Farm was also the name of Richard's parents farm.
Their children were: Edgar, Lesley, Frances (accidentally killed 4 August 1920 aged 2 years 11 months), Dulcie (m. Webb) and Mary (m. Stuart).
Dulcie was born in Gnowangerup at Mrs. Connie Badman's Nursing Home. Lesley served in WWII.

Aged 69 years, Myrtle Elsie Maud Burridge passed away on 29th January 1956, leaving two sons and two daughters to mourn their loss and her remains were interred in the Methodist portion of the Gnow.angerup Cemetery on Ist February 1956. The late Mrs. Burridge was intimately connected with the pioneering of this part of the State.
